When to Use It

Adjudication isn't always the first move but it's the right one when:

  • Negotiation has stalled and the other side won't engage seriously

  • You're facing a genuine cash flow crisis and need a fast, enforceable outcome

  • The main contractor has made unjustified deductions or contra-charges you can evidence

  • You have a clear entitlement under the contract that's being wrongly withheld

  • A final account or payment dispute needs resolving before it escalates further

If you're unsure whether your case is strong enough, that's exactly what a free case review is for — we'll tell you honestly.

The 28-Day Timeline

  • 1. Notice of Adjudication

We serve formal notice identifying the dispute and your entitlement.

  • 2. Adjudicator appointed

Within 7 days, usually via a nominating body such as the RICS or CIArb.

  • 3. Referral submitted

We prepare and submit your full case, evidence, and valuation.

  • 4. Response & reply

The other party responds; we reply to any points raised.

  • 5. Decision

The adjudicator issues a binding decision within 28 days of referral (extendable by 14 days with your agreement, or longer by mutual consent).

Once issued, the decision is binding and must be complied with immediately, the main contractor must pay, even if they intend to challenge the outcome later.

Costs & Funding

We offer flexible fee arrangements so cost is never a reason to leave money on the table:

  • Fixed fee — agreed upfront, so you know exactly what you're paying regardless of how the case develops

  • No-win, no-fee — available subject to a review of your case

  • Transparent from day one — you'll always know the cost of our fees before you commit, and in almost all cases our fees are a small percentage of the amount recovered

There's no cost or obligation for your initial case review.

You don't need adjudication experience, we bring it. RJH manages the whole process:

Adjudication vs Solicitors

Searching for a construction adjudication solicitor?

Here's what's worth knowing before you choose: adjudication is a commercial and technical process as much as a legal one. Success depends on accurately valuing the claim, understanding how the contract actually operated on site, and presenting evidence a QS would recognise as sound  not just legal argument.

RJH consultants combine construction law qualifications with decades of practical quantity surveying and main-contractor-side experience. That means your referral is built on the same commercial logic the other side's QS will be judging it against often at a fraction of solicitor hourly rates, with fixed-fee and no-win-no-fee options solicitors rarely offer. For the vast majority of subcontractor adjudications, that combination gets a stronger, faster result than legal representation alone.
